  • Advanced Placement French Language

    The Advanced Placement Language course prepares the student for the Advanced Placement examination in May. This class is especially rigorous, for it corresponds to an intermediate college level course. Emphasis will be placed on a deep level of grammatical understanding and vocabulary building which will develop and strengthen the students’ proficiency in speaking, reading, writing and listening. Note: Students in this course must contract to take the Advanced Placement Examination in May. Students are responsible to pay the AP College Board fees for the AP Examinations. It is also required to complete the summer work. Students who do not complete this work by its due date will be placed in another course. Prerequisite: Students who demonstrate exceptional language skills in level 3.1 or 4.1 will be considered.  Students must earn the recommendation of their current teacher, AND a 92% average; departmental approval.

    A fundamental study of a foreign language encompassing the implementation and improvement of the skills involved in listening, speaking, reading and writing. An introduction to the culture and civilization is included.

    A fundamental study of a foreign language encompassing the implementation and improvement of the skills involved in listening, speaking, reading and writing. An introduction to the culture and civilization is included.
  • French II (.1)

    This course is a continuation of the previous year’s foreign language study emphasizing further development in the student’s ability to speak, understand, read and write correct idiomatic language. Included is further study of verb forms and grammatical structures, in addition to an expansion of vocabulary. The study of culture and civilization is continued.
  • French II (.2)

    This course is a continuation of the previous year’s foreign language study emphasizing further development in the student’s ability to speak, understand, read and write correct idiomatic language. Included is further study of verb forms and grammatical structures, in addition to an expansion of vocabulary. The study of culture and civilization is continued.
  • French III (.1)

    This course continues to develop the student’s knowledge of the language by reviewing and expanding structural patterns. Instruction emphasizes more detailed practice in speaking and writing. Reading selections are drawn from various sources. Prerequisite: Departmental approval.

    This course continues to develop the student’s knowledge of the language by reviewing and expanding structural patterns. Instruction emphasizes more detailed practice in speaking and writing. Reading selections are drawn from various sources. Prerequisite: Departmental approval.
  • French IV (.1)

    This course is designed for the more advanced student. Emphasis continues on increasing the student’s conversational ability, reviewing and expanding important principles of grammar, and introducing the student to literary analysis through selected readings. Prerequisite: Departmental approval.

    The course is designed to help maintain the level of proficiency attained in AP Language. Each course is designed for the advanced student. Emphasis is placed on a deep level of grammatical understanding and vocabulary building which will further develop and strengthen the students’ ability to communicate effectively and understand the spoken and written language. Prerequisite: Successful completion of AP Language and departmental approval.
