Business

  • Accounting I (.1)

    This course is designed to help students discover if they have an interest in and aptitude for accounting as a profession as well as to build a foundation for the study of accounting at the college level. The complete accounting cycle, payroll systems, special journals, accounting for accruals, and inventories are presented. Business simulation sets are used at intervals to integrate principles studied. Students are introduced to automated accounting.

  • Entrepreneurship (.1)

    In this project-based course, students will be introduced to and gain practice applying industry leading methods of entrepreneurship.Ultimately, students will be tasked to work in small teams to develop an authentic business plan. Overall, this course not only introduces students to the methods and terminology of modern entrepreneurship but will also help students hone and develop skills needed for success in their academic and professional lives. These include, but are not limited to: public speaking, financial and statistical analysis, creative problem solving, networking, positive and productive team collaboration, and perseverance.

    This course provides students with an understanding of business organizations, how they work, and what impact they have on their everyday lives as citizens, wage earners, and consumers. Using a variety of high interest topics and including the most current business information and practices, the course offers an overview of the business world focusing on financial, economic, social, ethical, and technological issues and trends. Key topics covered include the role of business, the global economic and legal environment, ethics, marketing, accounting and finance, and managing processes and operations.
  • Introduction To Business (.2)

    This course provides students with an understanding of business organizations, how they work, and what impact they have on their everyday lives as citizens, wage earners, and consumers. Using a variety of high interest topics and including the most current business information and practices, the course offers an overview of the business world focusing on financial, economic, social, ethical, and technological issues and trends.     Managing personal finances is a long-term investment. The course will provide students an overview of managing their money for lifelong financial success. They will experience opening and managing a checking ac- count, applying for credit, renting an apartment, looking for a job, bank- ing electronically, paying taxes, and looking for insurance using an activity-based simulation packet. Effective budgeting and the importance of saving for the future are explored in depth.
